Tommy Douglas was a graduate of Brandon University in 1930. He went on to enjoy a successful career in public service, reshaping the social structure of Canada through the development of universal Medicare.
He acquired this chair in 1953 to use in his office when he was Premier of Saskatchewan. Three years after Douglas’ death in 1986, his wife, Irma Douglas, donated the chair to Brandon University. Douglas’ chair was dedicated to Brandon University on October 27, 1989, during the 1989 Homecoming Weekend celebrations.
