This entry in our Prairie Histories Podcast Series was created by Brandon University public history students in collaboration with the Negrych Homestead and students from the Centre for Creative Media at Assiniboine College.

Listen to learn about the hidden gem that is the Negrych Homestead, “the only in-situ Ukrainian farmstead in North America preserved intact in its original location.” Hear the story of the family who built the homestead. Their children lived there into the 1980s and, in keeping with their parents’ wishes, never modernized the site.
The Negrych Homestead is located about 30 minutes northwest of Dauphin, Manitoba. Meticulously and lovingly maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers, a visit to the homestead provides a sampling of what life was like for early Ukrainian settlers in the Parklands Region of Manitoba.
