Are you a student passionate about history, heritage, and archival work? The Health Sciences Centre (HSC) Archives/Museum in Winnipeg is offering an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting through a part-time Student Archivist position.
Position Overview
HSC is hiring a Student Archivist to work from July 7, 2025, to February 28, 2026, with a total of 420 hours of work at $20.50/hour. This position is supported by Young Canada Works, so applicants must meet eligibility requirements for YCW sponsorship.
The Archives/Museum—located in the former nurses’ residence at HSC—houses an extensive collection of corporate records and historical artifacts. Its mission is to preserve and share the legacy of the Health Sciences Centre and the many individuals who have contributed to its storied past.
What You’ll Do
Under the guidance of the HSC Archivist, your responsibilities will include:
- Accessioning, appraising, arranging, and describing archival materials
- Using archival tools like the Rules for Archival Description (RAD), Access to Memory (AtoM), and PastPerfect museum software
- Processing transfers and donations of records and artifacts
- Cataloguing museum items
- Assisting researchers and supporting heritage-related projects
Who Should Apply
This role is ideal for students enrolled in:
- An archival studies program
- A related graduate-level university program
- Or those with a comparable mix of education and experience
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience working with archival collections is preferred
- Familiarity with database systems is a plus
- Excellent written and spoken English skills are essential
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with precision and attention to detail
